About Us

Hello and Welcome Pet Owners,
I am Angela Hungate-CLAy , Executive  director at paws For A Cause cat Rescue in Oklahoma.  I have been in Rescue for the past 35 years and A pet parent even longer. I have won world and National titles in the show horse industry From Quarter Horses, Paints, Pintos and Miniatures. i have bred, raised and trained labrador reteivers to hunt/compete on land and river, conformation, obedience, and have Also won multiple titles with samoyeds. I currently run a cat rescue with over 250 cats and kittens in the program, one of the largest in Oklahoma and Texas.  Like many pet parents, my fur babies are family. My blog aims to help share the hours of research I do to keep up with all current pet health issues and current issues in my rescue. I also focus on the most nutritious food and treats and healthiest supplements on the market.  I aim to find and share the companies that put our pet's health first, above their company profit. No Pet Parent should have to waste money feeding their pets food that isn't for your pet's complete health and nutrition.
Furthermore, I believe pet food should not be full of unhealthy fillers and preservatives that cause health issues like diabetes, obesity, and cancer, to name a few.  These health issues cost Pet Parents more of their hard-earned money to treat their beloved pet's health conditions with drugs that again cause side effects, adding more health issues for the helpless pet. I look for all-natural supplements that work and prevent and treat pet health issues without side effects. I started my blog to make it as easy as possible for every pet owner to have healthy pets that live a long, quality life.

Why I Started My Pet Product Researching

I recieved a call from a very popular pet food company willing to donate 16,000 pounds of food to my rescue. I was so excited to be invited to the production facilty and see what happens behind the scenes. I had no clue what I was going to learn- I was totally shocked !!
the real truth of the pet food industry.

the 5-D's of pet food

In the book. The Nature of Animal Healing, Dr. Martin Goldstein writes of Ann Martin’s discoveries, saying:
“… “4-D” meat: meat from dead animals, dying animals, and diseased and disabled animals. (To that I add a fifth D for “drugged.”) These 5-D carcasses may have cancerous tumors, worm-infested organs, and the like—basically, anything and everything goes in the pot. Worse, Martin found, rendering plants happily accept roadkill, dead zoo animals, and, most appallingly, euthanized pets from animal shelters and veterinary clinics.” 2
Included with the animal carcasses in the rendering step are cattle ear tags with fly repellants, pet collars and ID tags, and packaging (plastic, foam, boxes) from expired grocery store meat.
Dr. Goldstein goes on to tell of Martin’s experience delving into the research of these meat sources. Ann Martin sent a questionnaire to all fifty United States, asking if euthanized pets are allowed in livestock and pet feed. Twenty states said there were no laws against such use, and the other thirty didn’t reply.
Martin also talked with several Veterinarians about the pets they euthanized, most of which had no idea that euthanized pets could end up at a rendering plant. Those Veterinarians responsibly changed what was going to happen to pets euthanized through their services.
The Los Angeles Times told a story of two circus elephants that developed tuberculosis.
“Workers used a forklift to put the animal’s body on a truck for transport to the San Bernardino State Diagnostic Lab. A necropsy showed that 80 percent of Joyce’s lung tissue was infected either with cancer or tuberculosis. The body was taken to a rendering factory to be processed into animal food.”2
Euthanized pets and sick zoo animals for dog food. Are you wondering what’s in your bag of dog food yet?

What I Found Out About Veterinarians and Nutrition
During my search to find healthier pet food, I found that veterinarians have very little pet nutrition training. To become a veterinarian nutritionist, one must complete veterinary school and apply to another college for additional pet nutrition training. Most people don't want the added cost and delayed time to start their career for this further education.  And honestly, with the skyrocketing cost of higher education, my vet told me that most Vets rely on food company reps to tell them how their companies' food is balanced and healthy. Just like the drug companies, The food companies also sell their pet food to the Vet's office at a lower cost so the Vet can profit from selling the food. I then started looking at the food recommended by my veterinarian. I found it had large amounts of fillers with no nutritional value for my pets, including preservatives to keep the food from going bad for years. These additional ingredients are known to cause a list of health problems, including cancer in pets.

I Research Hours each Week On Current Pet Health and Nutrition
I suddenly felt a whirlwind of emotions. I felt utterly deceived by my veterinarian, angry at the pet food company for adding ingredients that made my pets sick. But most of all, guilty for feeding my pets something that made them ill and not doing the research sooner. I now research everything my pets eat, play with and wear. Because of this, my pets rarely ever need to see our Vet for anything but wellness check-ups and routine shots. I'm now delighted with my pet's health. I even found how to stop my parents 90 pound rottweiler from shedding, which was a big win for me to help with my parents dog allergy.
